I'm on Vacation and knitting socks, lots of socks !
I have 6 pairs in total: 100% Angora rabbit in white and black, 100% qiviut for a customer, and 3 pairs of Regia sock yarns and the ones shown above.
The little Ankle sock above is knit from qiviut-queen-merino in rosewater and maple color.
The pattern is my absolute fav. Its from a designer called Janneke Maat and the pattern name is Nell.

hmmm... I'd probably knit something for a friend who just underwent surgery for thyroid cancer. Maybe something for a friend who's recently got out of a bad relationship.

I would knit socks for my husband. After knitting a pair for him for our wedding, which he wore all winter, he's really developed an appreciation for handknit socks and I'd love to give him more pairs.

ReplyDeleteHm, I would prob. knit socks for my husband, as his feet are often cold. He has to promise to keep his toenails trimmed though, as he keeps wearing through commercial dress socks!

Both Mom and I have feet that eat socks whole! Unless they were only used as bedsocks, I could never subject this wonderful fiber to that kind of punishment. Better I stay with hats and scarves.

ReplyDeleteAsking who I would like to knit socks for is like asking who in my ideal or imaginary world I'd like at my ultimate dinner table! So I'd love to knit a nice warm, shaded fine pair for the famous naturalist David Attenborough - I think he would not only apprecaite them but wear them as well. The second pair would have to be for Nelson Mandela - he is quite old now and I suspect in all his worthy and astounding life few if any have ever given him a pair of glary snazzy and wild socks. The thrid pair for my great pal, Nyima. A wonderful Tibetan woman living in Sikkim - Nyima knits and teaches other women to knit, providing them with a place to gather and talk and feel useful. For Nyima they would have to be very fine qiviut socks in a lovely shade of purple I think - it gets so very cold in the shadow of the Himalaya. The fourth pair for my daughter - I know she already has lots of hand knitted things including socks, and she is more thanold enough to knit her own, but still I love knitting for her - I think it sort of annoys her in a loving way - it will continue to spoil her as well! I'd knit socks for my SIL in Nome who is often out at night repairing heaters; a pair for my DD in Nome who is still cold there after many years; and a hat for my SILs mother, also in Nome, who is ready to start chemo for breast cancer and could use something soft and warm for her head and heart.
ReplyDeleteI'd knit socks for my aunt Molly! She's the knitter in the family, but 5 years ago she was paralysed after an illness and can no longer knit. She's definitely in need of some new, handmade Qiviut socks to keep her going!
ReplyDeleteFor my grandma, who misses her nightly foot-rubs now that my grandpa has passed. And the mice got her qiviut smoke-ring, and I'm at a loss as to how to repair it. So I'm sure she would love them.

ReplyDeleteI live in Winnipeg where the winters can get really cold. There's a school around the corner from me and it's in the poorest postal code in Canada. The kids at the school have emigrated from all around the world and not all of them can afford new mitts or warm socks and you know how easy it is for kids to lose their mittens if they don't have strings attached. I think maybe I'd make new mitts for the school lost and found so the next time a child loses their mitts...

ReplyDeleteI would knit socks for me because, sadly, no one else I know would take the time to care for them properly...hand wash! Baby socks are a lovely idea, but, similarly, no new parent I know has the time to hand wash anything!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely for me and for my boyfriend to wear when we're snowmobiling. Extra warmth is a wonderful thing. And I'd make some fingerless mittens for my mom and my daughter who both have cold hands. If there was enough left, I'd make a cowl for my sister. She lives on the high plains of Colorado and can use something to keep her warm while she's out taking care of her horses.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I haven't mastered socks yet! But have been trying for a couple of years and I am getting better. My daughter keeps asking and I do keep trying our floors are still cold even now. So I would give her first pair. Second I would give to a very nice lady whom I did repair several pair of old knitted socks for last year and she paid me way too much. Third for my friend and landlord he is very nice to me and my daughter. Then selfishly and lastely myself becuase if I make all of them a pair I would think I should have one also.

ReplyDeleteIf I was to knit socks with this, they would be for me - aside from other knitters, I'm the only one I know who's willing to hand wash socks. However, I think this would be excellent yarn for mittens or gloves and if I won I'd likely knit some for my mom.

I'd actually like to knit some socks for my mom. She lives in Colorado, and could definitely use more snuggly socks during the winter. She's very appreciative of the knits I make for her, and I'd really like to add a pair of socks to her small hand knits collection. :)

Hi. I am a sad knitter girl, who as being very young, my mom got cancer. My pretty much only happiness in this dark world of middle school and pink ribbons is :yarn. I can knit, crochet and sew, and I have never, not once in my life beheld angora. PLEASE choose me as you winner!! It would really make my day! And I SWEAR on my life this column is absolutely true!
ReplyDeleteI would knit socks for lots of friends of whom most are knitters themselves, but that would mean they would probably appreciate it. Because it won't be ordinary socks like plain stockinette stitch or with a ribbed cuff. Nope, my socks are always special. Since I am an addicted sock knitter, there has to be a challenge in every new pair!

ReplyDeleteI would knit socks for my son, a photographer who travels the world on assignments.I rarely see him wearing a matched pair of socks so I thought that I would knit 7 or 8 fraternals, all the same combinations of wool, but different patterns. It wouldn't matter if he was skiing in the Himalaya or cycling in Israel, he would always match.
