This is a fab show, one of the best in canada.....you got to come to this show ! It's a great day of just knitting relaited goodies......lots of great vendors all under the same roof....its a day to stock up on all your knitting stuff for the coming winter knitting months.......we even get a ton of American ladies coming to this show its that good !

At this show i will be selling lots and lots of Luxury rovings, batts with some yarns too. I will also have our new line of qiviut socks.......qiviut socks in many different blends and even pure qiviut for those who really need hot socks !

Also been Busy with Stock taking and spinning more yarns and oodles of lovely rovings, i have some mill ends and bits and bob's that are in need of a new home for this months giveaway.
Lot # 3 above contains: 26 gram ball of pencil roving of 50% angora/50% Camel....its so soft ! and also has the 3 little bags of carded 100% grey Shetland wool, red 50% cashmere, silk blend and carded mix of 100% merino for felting or spinning. Will also include some qiviut mill ends in yarns or roving whatever we have on hand at time of shipping !

I have not been to a fiber show, but I visit the fiber booths at my local farmers' markets, and I lead a Prayer Shawl group of ladies where we talk about 'fiber finds'. I hope that's close enough! :)

ReplyDeleteI went to my first fiber fair last month, Midwest Folk and Fiber. I very much want to go to Stitches Midwest, alas I don't have the time/money combination.
ReplyDeleteI was amazed at how much I learned at the fair, what types of fibers there were and how they spun and knit differently. It was awesome.
FYI, blogger seems to be having a lot of trouble with openid. I had to try several times to get this to work.

I've never been to a fiber show, tho it sounds fantastic! Would it count that while I was in Scotland I visited with every person I could that worked with the wonderful Scottish wools... including a Harris Tweed weaver?

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, we have very few fiber shows in my neck of the woods. I try to take my kids to the Puyallup Fair each fall, where they have a mini version of a fiber show. I enjoy seeing the different fleeces from the various breeds of sheep. Good luck with the new sheep, I'm sure they will be fun!

ReplyDeleteHowever, I did visit a yearly party by the knitting club here in town. It has been two years since my last visit to the club for a regular coming together and have a cup of tea. This party I am talking about is a sort of one-woman-show of a lady that sells her hand spun and dyed stuff to the other members. I love the things she done with it and treated myself to some sparkly purple skeins.
But no rabbit so far, so that would be very very nice ;-)

ReplyDeleteAllegan! It is really Michigan Fiber Fest. But everyone just says Allegan! I will be looking for a black shetland fleece this year to round out my shetland colors. I always spend too much money and later wish I had bought something I saw.

Hi Maggie, Thanks for the well wishes for our little flock....they are so cute. We purchased 6 lambs so far and 2 adult ewes. One of the lambs is jet black i just hope she stays very dark ! A wedding shawl sounds like fun possibly later as i purchased a solid white ram lamb due to arrive in september....best of luvk with your entry.

DeleteSad to say that we do not have any fibre/craft shows here in our country....crafting is rare and those of us who enjoy crafting are are indeed a rare breed. I am lucky for I belong to a great group of crafters from all over the world and we aspire to keep knitting/crochet/tatting/paper craft/quilting alive for as long as possible. ReplyDeleteAfter many years of missing it, I finally got to attend the Maine Fiber Frolic in Unity, Maine, and it poured down rain! I went with a friend and we had a great time, and with the rain we practically had the place to ourselves. Thanks for the giveaway!

DeleteIn April, I went to the Wisconsin Spin-In in Waukesha. A smaller festival, but it's such fun to talk to the vendors and pick up fiber and yarn from the producers. I got some angora fiber(and pet the bunnies!), some corn silk yarn, some alpaca roving, some hand-dyed merino roving. Some I've used, some I gave away for swap, some is still waiting. It's great to have choices!

I was lucky enough to attend the Estes Park (Colorado) Wool Market/Festival in June. Thankfully, I was there on 9 June, just as the High Park fire was starting; I don't think seeing the flames and breathing in all that smoke on the 10th would have been much fun. I know it certainly wasn't for the folks who live(d) there.

I dont think there is any fiber show held in my country. Or at least not in my city, anyway:p but it may also because i dont work in the yarn industry so i dont know of any.... That reminds me, I hope i will get to win your yarns because I dont know how to felt nor spin:) Have fun at the shows!

I live in rural Montana BUT I am lucky enough to have two great yarn shops nearby! The most recent fiber show I went to was a small one highlighting yarn from local buffalo.....pretty amazing!

ReplyDeleteI met my first Fiber Festival at the Michigan Fiber Festival in Allegan just this week! I was in love and in awe. There was so-o much to see...and Oh what I could do! I got a wonderful bag of natural alpaca and a small table top loom to try my hand at weaving, as I am a spinner and love fiber. I plan on using what I spin to weave. I love what fiber can do. Have been gathering quite a variety of all kinds of roving from everywhere as we travel to make our living, just having a hard time finding time to do all that I want to! Can't wait until winter when we slow down a bit! Thank you for your blog and web site! I am so happy to find it!

I attended my first festival this year...Michigan Fiber Festival in Allegan last week. I took workshops for 3 days with one day on spinning and two on weaving. Plan on going back next year as well with my sister(s).

I am a knitter and a spinner and attended the Olds College Fibre Week for my third year in a row as well as the Hand Weavers Spinners and Dyers of Alberta Conference. I have some qiviut roving at home that I am saving for the right inspiration to make something out of, but it is my favourite fibre. I have a stuffed musk ox on my desk in my office to touch and remind me of my true passion, luxury fibre. I came across the blog while looking for yarn to buy to make a new hat and scarf for myself out of a qiviut or qiviut blend for this winter.

ReplyDeleteI am in Australia, and was lucky enough to receive a beautiful gift of a skein of Qiviut Tundra Blend. I attended the Adelaide Royal Show, in September 2011, and will be attending it again next month in the hope of purchasing some more wonderful Alpaca yarn. I am not sure if there are any dedicated yarn shows in my part of Australia

ReplyDeleteJanuary Spin-in in Destin, DL is a diner gathering I have attended for the last two years, and I hope the next 20 years! That is where I won an ounce of Qiviut that I have not spun yet. I sure would like to have some more to go with it!
