Mill Ends giveaway For April 2013

Another lovely lot........

Been having another clean out. This lot of bobbin ends weighs 230grams, a mix of 2,3 and 4ply. The white you see is pure cashmere. The grey is qiviut blends and the browns are wonderful 100% pure qiviut,  its a nice little lot. the yarns are unwashed so feel a bit yak as they are full of spinning oils and anti-static but i will wash them for you before i mail them. i really think this lot is just too perfect to dye !
You could make a lovely shawl or scarf. Imagine knitting feather and fan stitch shawl and lining each colour up as you go along working just a few rows or even a whole pattern rep ! Could even start your christmas knitting early....a few scarves for loved one's !

The mill ends lot from last month giveaway has been dyed mahogany......

i love how the dye takes on a different tone and depth throughout and i hope our winner Kathy will send us a picture of the finished whatever she knits !!! that big skein of seasilk/qiviut has taken on an intresting sheen and Kathy requested two silvery looking skeins to be left natural...hope i got the 2 skeins she was talking about correct.

One winner randomly drawn.
To enter and win the natural lot of yarns shown at the top of this page just tell us what you would knit, scarf, shawl or whatever.

  1. I think with all of those grays, browns and whites I would crochet a granny square patchwork shawl. Its a beautiful blend of natural colors.

  2. Those colors are gorgeous, and I can only image how soft they will be. It would have to be something to touch the skin! Probably a shawl, I'm on a bit of a shawl kick lately. Maybe squeeze in a cowl, some fingerless mitts ... so many possibilities!

  3. So pretty! I'd probably knit a shawl.

  4. I'd make a cowl and fingerless gloves to match.

  5. I think I'd like to do another entrelac project with these, perhaps a few scarves. The yarns from last month are a beautiful variety of shades, and nice to see some natural still in the mix.

  6. How lovely! I'd make a hooded scarf, so beautiful and warm!

  7. What wonderfully various yarns...they would all find their way into handwoven scarves.

  8. I would love to make scarves of these! Thanks for the chance :-)

  9. I just bought a pattern (Små Skridt on Ravelry) for a blanket that combines stripes with slipped stitches to make a really interesting design. I think it would look fabulous in the variety of natural colors. And it would be incredibly warm and luxurious too!

  10. I don't even know what I would knit with all of that loveliness. I'd probably start with a cowl, maybe cowls for all of my female relatives for Christmas this year, and one for me, definitely a cowl for me. :-)

  11. oh heavens, that is the most beautiful basket of fiber i've ever seen. perfect in the natural colors, my very favorite. i would make the shawl as you said, feather and fan, picking up a new neutral color every few rows! i can picture it. i'm crossing all my fingers.

  12. Ah, how lovely. It is nice to see the natural shades together. I can think of a friend or two who would enjoy a smoke ring for Christmas. I have given a couple to my god daughters who are elementary school teachers. Recess yard duty is easier if you are warm. These baskets are so much fun to dream about.
    Cheers,

  23. Some sort of lacy camisole to wear underneath clothes, next to the skin, for cold winter days... perhaps with matching undies. ;)

  24. I love the way the previous winner's yarns turned out! The range of colors is beautiful and will look so good in whatever she creates. I'd love to win the batch you are giving away this month. Don't know what I'd do with it yet but it would be stunning, you can bet.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would like to make a shawl out of this beautiful yarn.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Looking at the basket of your lovely give-away, makes me think of knitting finger gloves, with each finger in a different shade and a matching striped toque.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My gosh is that gorgeous! I'd probably do a simple lace shawl with it and let the fiber speak for itself.

    ReplyDelete
  28. hmm, it just looks scrumptious! i would have to knit up something quickly, as i don't see my cats being able to ignore it as a possible perfect napping pile. something lacy definitely, perhaps a mobius cowl with ombre shading.

  30. I would knit Norwegian, Estonian or Fair-Isle gloves and mittens.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Fingerless gloves!!! Long ones.

    ReplyDelete

  34. Maybe a scarf of many colors, and fibers - fabulous!

  35. Well, from experience I know that a little qiviut goes a long way. I recently knit my first qiviut hat. It is so soft, warm, yet very lightweight and I couldn't help but think how wonderful hats made from qiviut would be for those who have lost their hair due to cancer. So from this batch I would knit hats for cancer patients.

  36. scarves and hats !

  37. I would love to make some things that would be felt right next to skin - a cowl/neck warmer, gloves, and - because my hair is very short - a hat. What a lovely thought...

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm from Australia, and as I've never seen this yarn before first up I'd just feel it to soak up its softness, then I'd knit a scarf for my wonderful 86 year old mother-in-law.

    ReplyDelete
  39. A scarf or cowl, so I'd have an excuse for always smooshing it against my cheek ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think it would have to be a shawl - just adore all those gorgeous fibers!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not sure how much of it is 2-ply, but I would make a lace shawl as big as the 2-ply would allow, or a smokering if there's not so much. The 4-ply I might use for a really funky hat. The 3-ply would make nice hand-warmers, perhaps in entrelac. Really just have to dive in and see how much there is of what, but the natural colours and the assortment of fibers is yummy delicious. If gauge would allow, I would very much like to do colour-work with those.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree it would be a shame to dye that lovely yarn. I'd use it as a gradient to make a shawl. Possibly the Crepidula Shawl. Let the yarn's beauty shine through.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm just crazy about shawls these days. What a joy it would be to wrap this around me on a winter's day.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh. I'd make hats for the family.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Would love the colours as they are made into a shawl, scarf and what's left a pair of socks. Want surround myself in the feel of these beautiful textures if I only could.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would never dye that yarn; they're gorgeous just as they are!! I would knit myself the most luxurious wrap... and I would NEVER take it off :)

    venny on Ravelry

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think a bunch of scarves might be in order with that lot!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love soft stuff! I think this yarn it should wrap around my neck as a scarf. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  49. This would make some so soft booties for my new grandbaby...my first! And I'd make a hat for my snowboarder daughter, and a lacy scarf for my new momma daughter. Possibly some mitts for me too. Yummy yarns.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Gosh what choices there are - probably a lacey beret and cowl for my constantly freezing London daughter

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have been on a cowl knitting kick recently, so pretty lacy cowls for Christmas gifts sounds just about right. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'd like to make a nice soft and warm hat, scarf and mitts set with that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. This would be my first ever opportunity to knit with cashmere or qiviut yarn. I would love to knit a hat and maybe my favourite knit and felt baby booties.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I would knit a lace shawl. It looks so soft!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I would have to knit a lace shawl. Can't imagine having such beautiful yarn to knit with.

    sherryglover1 on Ravelry.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi, this beautiful yarn definitely calls for a shawl for my black winter coat, which is on its own very elegant and with a blue/gray shawl it would be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  57. A cowl. Definitely a cowl! Something lacy and romantic. The Traveling Vine Lace (Barbara Walker I) or the Elfin Lace (Also B.W.I)

Though a shawl would also be nice... One of those Icelandic shawls that has bands of color would be lovely.

I think, in the end, one has to have the fiber in one's hands, and let it tell me what it wants to be.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think I would like to knit a smokering or socks. I am almost finished knitting a a smokering for the first time using qiviut . I love it. It is a gift for a friend.

    ReplyDelete
  59. A lovely striped scarf for me, maybe in long rows of 200 stitches, so that the stripes travel the whole length of the scarf.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think I would knit a lace scarf or shawl.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Colour work mittens - - first thing that I thought of!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ah...so want to work with these! Definitely a hood/cowl neck scarf. Would get me past this seemingly never-ending winter...it was hailing this morning...

    ReplyDelete
  63. I just had twins 5 weeks ago, a boy and a girl, and I would love to make them viking hats with horns, and braids for the girl's. The colours of this fibre are perfect as they are for this project too!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hmm, hesitating between a shawl and a little blanket. The blanket. For my second child going overseas this summer. Thanks for giving the opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I would definitely knit a shawl, most likely Urdr or Veil of Isis. I think the halo and warmth of the yarn will make those shawls really shine

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would love to knit a pair of mittens with a matching hat in some type of wonderful colourwork. As it would be my first time knitting with qiviut I would be overwhelmed at first but I know that something wonderful would be created.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well, I have two brothers. I knitted a qiviut scarf for one for a special birthday. But now I've run out of qiviut so need enough for a scarf or gloves for the second bro when his biggie comes along. Help! Fantastic colours - and, of course, I'd have to keep a little for myself- perhaps hook a tiny bit into a mat...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Love quiviut! I would knit a soft huge shawl to wrap myself in luxury on summer nights.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have two friends who are outpost nursing way way up "on top of Canada" who might appreciate bed socks and thrummed mittens and maybe a cowl!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I would combine it with the jewel tone fingering weight yarn I bought from you at the frolic and knit a fairisle neck band for a cardigan.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Loved your idea of a feather and fan stitch on a shawl. I'd alternate the colors (these are SO yummy!) and graduate them from dark to light. OOOOO! I want to start right now! :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I recently discovered a book "The Knitters Life List" and in the opening pages it was suggested to try new fibers. A quick search brought me to your web site and a purchase of yarn. I am retired on a sail boat traveling along the coast and I knit to keep my hands busy and warm. I would knit fingerless gloves and a scarf and ..... just would have a delightful time using this fiber.

    ReplyDelete
  73. it was so nice to meet you and purchase yarn at the Frolic. I would knit a scarf with this.
