Another lovely lot........
Been having another clean out. This lot of bobbin ends weighs 230grams, a mix of 2,3 and 4ply. The white you see is pure cashmere.The grey is qiviut blends and the browns are wonderful 100% pure qiviut, its a nice little lot. the yarns are unwashed so feel a bit yak as they are full of spinning oils and anti-static but i will wash them for you before i mail them. i really think this lot is just too perfect to dye !
You could make a lovely shawl or scarf. Imagine knitting feather and fan stitch shawl and lining each colour up as you go along working just a few rows or even a whole pattern rep ! Could even start your christmas knitting early....a few scarves for loved one's !

i love how the dye takes on a different tone and depth throughout and i hope our winner Kathy will send us a picture of the finished whatever she knits !!! that big skein of seasilk/qiviut has taken on an intresting sheen and Kathy requested two silvery looking skeins to be left natural...hope i got the 2 skeins she was talking about correct.

I think with all of those grays, browns and whites I would crochet a granny square patchwork shawl. Its a beautiful blend of natural colors.
ReplyDeleteThose colors are gorgeous, and I can only image how soft they will be. It would have to be something to touch the skin! Probably a shawl, I'm on a bit of a shawl kick lately. Maybe squeeze in a cowl, some fingerless mitts ... so many possibilities!

ReplyDeleteI just bought a pattern (Små Skridt on Ravelry) for a blanket that combines stripes with slipped stitches to make a really interesting design. I think it would look fabulous in the variety of natural colors. And it would be incredibly warm and luxurious too!
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what I would knit with all of that loveliness. I'd probably start with a cowl, maybe cowls for all of my female relatives for Christmas this year, and one for me, definitely a cowl for me. :-)

oh heavens, that is the most beautiful basket of fiber i've ever seen. perfect in the natural colors, my very favorite. i would make the shawl as you said, feather and fan, picking up a new neutral color every few rows! i can picture it. i'm crossing all my fingers.
ReplyDeleteAh, how lovely. It is nice to see the natural shades together. I can think of a friend or two who would enjoy a smoke ring for Christmas. I have given a couple to my god daughters who are elementary school teachers. Recess yard duty is easier if you are warm. These baskets are so much fun to dream about.

ReplyDeleteWell, from experience I know that a little qiviut goes a long way. I recently knit my first qiviut hat. It is so soft, warm, yet very lightweight and I couldn't help but think how wonderful hats made from qiviut would be for those who have lost their hair due to cancer. So from this batch I would knit hats for cancer patients.

ReplyDeleteI'm from Australia, and as I've never seen this yarn before first up I'd just feel it to soak up its softness, then I'd knit a scarf for my wonderful 86 year old mother-in-law.

ReplyDeleteNot sure how much of it is 2-ply, but I would make a lace shawl as big as the 2-ply would allow, or a smokering if there's not so much. The 4-ply I might use for a really funky hat. The 3-ply would make nice hand-warmers, perhaps in entrelac. Really just have to dive in and see how much there is of what, but the natural colours and the assortment of fibers is yummy delicious. If gauge would allow, I would very much like to do colour-work with those.

Hi, this beautiful yarn definitely calls for a shawl for my black winter coat, which is on its own very elegant and with a blue/gray shawl it would be perfect.

I think, in the end, one has to have the fiber in one's hands, and let it tell me what it wants to be.
I think I would like to knit a smokering or socks. I am almost finished knitting a a smokering for the first time using qiviut . I love it. It is a gift for a friend.

ReplyDeleteI recently discovered a book "The Knitters Life List" and in the opening pages it was suggested to try new fibers. A quick search brought me to your web site and a purchase of yarn. I am retired on a sail boat traveling along the coast and I knit to keep my hands busy and warm. I would knit fingerless gloves and a scarf and ..... just would have a delightful time using this fiber.
