Its Show Time
And this is the first show of the year for us !
What can i tell you about the 'Frolic'......
It could very well be the best show in Eastern Canada. The Venue hasn't changed locations in years & i think it is one of the most beautiful locations to have a fibre event from a building stand point.
The Frolic came to its current location on Apirl 16Th 2005
The Frolic came to its current location on Apirl 16Th 2005
The first Frolic show was held in 1998 at the Bloor Street United Church about 150 people attended. The Organizing committee of 5 & the Current President Carole Adams work incredibly hard to bring this great show to life giving their time for free.
Today's show see's over 2,000 people through the doors thanks to the Dedicated work of the Down Town Knit Collective whose Goal is to 'share the advancement of knitting through the sharing of idea's & techniques, education & Community involvement' their goal appears to be working not only in the number of people that attend but the fact that they have chosen such a beautiful place to host & will continue to do so for years to come.
A quiet little spot to sit in the Japanese Garden
Natural Light Filled spaces can be found everywhere in this building !
This brings me onto what we will give as a 'Raffle Prize'....this year we decided to give a $100 Gift certificate spendable at our booth on Frolic day, so if you happen to be the Lucky winner just stop by the booth & present your gift card & you can carry off 100 bucks worth of products.... all our yarns, even the pure qiviut!
For those readers who can't attend i have this.....
This is 100% Magical Qiviut in 3ply a huge skein of Raven Black 140 grams with 567 Yards
Oh, that would make a beautiful cowl! That's what I would make.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I would have to make a scarf, because it's all I know how to make.
ReplyDeleteI could make a sumptuous lace scarf or cowl.
ReplyDeleteI'm stunned - speechless - by the generosity and the beauty of that skein of yarn. Looking through my Ravelry library, I'm struck by a new pattern I have - Iznik, I heart you shawl. It was a KAL recently that I didn't have time to do, but it's waiting and I think would be lovely in black. Maybe with some silver beads? or bronze?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway (I hope I win, I hope I win!)
I would love to make a Smoke Ring cowl with it. I've never found a soft enough yarn to make it with yet but I know this one will be it. Thank you for the chance to win some of your lovely yarn. In fact I'll make some mitts to go with it, too, if there is enough. It certainly sounds like a lot!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredibly generous giveaway! I would love to make a Smoke Ring from this yarn.
ReplyDeleteThis is begging to be a Boneyard shawl. It would be scrumptious and the clean lines of the shawl would allow the yarn to shine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a luxury!!! I would love to knit a black small shawl (likely one of Romi Hill's patterns, as she is my favorite designer) with this, and use some silvery beads. What is the yardage and grist of the yarn? Would need that in order to know for sure what we could make with it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! And what a lovely show, I wish I were closer! I would knit a simple lace shawl, probably a feather/or leaf motif, in a crescent shape...not sure on the exact pattern, would depend on the yardage!
ReplyDeleteI would knit my wonderful husband a warm winter scarf. It would probably be a twisted rib pattern, or maybe something reversable.
ReplyDeleteI think I would make a Foreign Correspondent's Scarf. Very lacy and light, which would go beautifully with qiviut.
ReplyDeleteI never knew what a smoke ring was until I saw I saw it on your site. I would love to knit one, soft and luxurious, from this lovely wool!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could attend! If I were the lucky winner, I would knit Round Dance:

Hope you have a wonderful show!
I really want to knit a scarf for my mom. That is my next project and wish I win this yarn to do so.
ReplyDeletethanks for the awesome giveaway
roycedavids at gmail dot com
I think it would make a beautiful shawl. Very sophisticated. Probably ‘Ishbel’ which I’ve done before and always gets compliments but is not difficult.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity.
Oh I would make some gorgeous mittens with some thrumming for my ailing sister.I'm therefore wishing upon all stars!
ReplyDeletewish that i could join you at the frolic! a shawl, for sure! the shetland lace triangle is what i'd make, to wear this magical quiviut to the shetland islands this summer, i'm going in july!
ReplyDeleteI would love to knit a simple shrug for my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI'd make a lacy scarf, and if there's any yarn left, a pair of wrist warmers to match. Probably these two patterns or something very similar: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/margokp/silky-alpaca-lace-scarf and http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/beaded-lace-fingerless-gloves
ReplyDeleteI would like to knit a hat with this lovely yarn. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to make a cowl/neck warmer, and if enough was leftover, some fingerless gloves. So decadent!
ReplyDeleteIt just has to be something lacy with beads in the pattern! If there's enough yardage, I would make "Glitz at the Ritz" with silver lined beads to add weight and sparkle to the silky qiviut. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/glitz-at-the-ritz If there isn't enough for the big sister Glitz, I could make her little sister . . . "Afternoon Shawlette" http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/afternoon-tea-4 and add some pretty beads.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how many yards are in this skein, but this yarn would be absolutely perfect for the Dragon's Rest Shawl by Abigail Phelps http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dragons-rest-shawl.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colour! I would love to make a hat or a neck-warmer with it - or maybe both of them if the yardage would allow it!
ReplyDeleteAs I already have made a scarf, it looks as if this would be sufficient to make a lacy shawl. Now to decide which shawl to make!
ReplyDeleteShould I win (a highly unlikely event) I would attempt my first ever smoke ring. After this freezing winter, I decided I need one!
ReplyDeleteI just love the colour of the yarn! If there is yarn enough I would love to make this shrug: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/i-do with it. If that isn't possible, then it'll be some other kind of shrug/shawl/möbius.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed - I so hope to win this one! Thanks so much for making all these give aways, it's really awesome! :)
I would knit Dragonflies & Thistles by Bridget Rorem
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dragonflies--thistles
If there's enough yardage, I'll make Shoulder Shawl in Syrian Pattern; if there isn't enough yardage to complete it, though, I'd make either A Harebell Fichu or Victorian Ruby.
ReplyDeleteAfter cutting my hair short I would definitely knit myself a cowl that can also be a scarf and shoulder warmer (my first attempt stretched so much I can almost wear it as a top :-/).
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful qiviut skien would be treasured as I knit then as the finished garment used all the time as I sit in a draught all the time.
If I were to win this amazing Qiviut, I would be torn between whether to make a scarf or a hat. Whichever I decide, it would be for my boyfriend's daughter who is 5 years old. She is not blood related to me but, as a mother figure to her, she calls me "Mommy Musk Ox" (her father is "Daddy Musk Ox", and of course she is "Baby Musk Ox"). We are planning a trip to Katmai, Alaska in 4 years and would love to have a finished Qiviut project to take with us! Thank you for the opportunity to win such a generous prize.
ReplyDeleteI can't make the Collective show, as I am committed to walking part of the Bruce Trail that weekend. Wish me endurance and good weather.
ReplyDeleteWith the Magical Qiviut, I would make a magical shawl, as big as possible for my daughter who lives in the Yukon. Seems a fitting place for the quviut to end up. I feel snuggly thinking about it.
Oh, this qiviut is dying to become an elegant lace wrap. I would even learn how to knit with beads, because it would look extra stunning with a bit of sparkle :) Thank you for the chance!!
ReplyDeleteI would make a shawl or a cowl. A lot depends on the yardage.
ReplyDeleteI would make a wrap for my mom - if there is enough yardage I'd make a modified Silky Alpaca Lace Shawl, otherwise I'd make a Cousin Sarah
ReplyDeleteLike most of the others, I would make this into a shawl or wrap or cowl. Something super soft to wrap around me.
ReplyDeleteI would make this simple shawl http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/holey-square-shawl - not too much of a challenge for a first lace project and working with dark yarn. It would highlight the soft sheen of the yarn.
ReplyDeleteI would knit the dragonfly shawl with the qiviut. With the remaining I would knit a small 3 sisters scarf.
ReplyDeleteOh, gorgeous! A shawl would be fabulous, or a cowl ... maybe Vent d'est vent d'ouest, I've had that on my list for a long time, waiting to decide what yarn to use.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I would knit a mitten/hat set or a shawl.

Oh my. what an opportunity. I would love to win this yarn and in so doing would choose to knit if suitable - a pair of socks. Or a cowl, or scarf or shawl even or a pair of fingerless gloves. I will know when I hold the yarn.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the perfect yarn for a "Kind Of Blue" shawl by Lauren Fréhel , or "Simple Lines" shawl by maanel, some patterns that have been in my queue for years!
ReplyDeleteSee you at the Frolic
jennifer
Would LOVE to make Golden Orchids by Aino Haikala or Cascade Light Fingering Shoulder Cowl by Colinton Australia Exclusive with this yarn!
ReplyDeleteI would knit a reversible cabled scarf or a cowl
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures. I would knit strangling vines lace scarf and ringwood gloves ravelry for my great grandmother as the cold really gets to her now. I would knit the gloves first to see how much yarn would be left over before the scarf though.
ReplyDeleteI would knit an evening shawl or scarf.

If I was lucky enough to win this Magical Qiviut I think I would like to knit Kati Mohr's "Katerin" or something along those lines. Open enough to do the yarn justice so it doesn't get lost in a tight pattern. Thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were more yarn events in my city. I have to wait until the fall for one here.
ReplyDeleteI am on a serious shawl run right now. If I had this yarn, I would splurge and buy another set of patterns by Boo Knits probably the Spirit Collection and then I would likely make the Kindred Spirit shawl or the Sacred Spirit shawl.
567 yards is a lot of yarn so I think that would make a great shawl.

If I won, I think I'd like to pair it with a natural white yarn of similar weight, maybe some blue for accent (or maybe not), and try my hand at knitting a thick, warm, double-knit scarf. I've never done any double knitting before, so it would be fun! It would be probably Norwegian-ish in design; I love the look of black and white snowflakes!
