NEW....Out♥lander Inspired yarn with Qiviut-Giveaway September 2017

Tundra..... life in the Arctic circle.
Been quite a while since my last post. Late 2016 i decided to concentrate all my spare time into my Shetland sheep project/hobby. The flock has grown (today i have 148 heads) & they are producing some of the best quality Shetland wool yarn in the World!! Soft n supple & just gorgeous, a pure Joy to knit with. The hobby turned into a full time job for me, most of 2017 has been very hectic. As soon as we are done processing kilo's of pure qiviut yarn we have to load the machines with batches of Shetland fleece to get all the orders out ! I'm hoping that things are about to settle down very soon, my lambs are sold & most are leaving within the month, so i will have more time to blog about my fibery passions of Qiviut yarns & Shetland wool.

And introducing my newest yarn....Inspired by the Out♥lander series 150 gram skeins with about 750 yards. Blend is 90% Shetland 10% Qiviut. $35.00 Canadian per skein.

Colours from left to right: Lallybroch, Shades of muted green & light grey with a deep shade of moss.

Dragonfly in Amber, Buttercup, orange & deepest brown,

Over the sea to Sky- shades of blue & sea grass,

& standing stones- shades of grey with natural hints of the base colour of the yarn.

We made a small batch for the twist fibre festival & they all sold within an hours or so.
I can't wait to knit something with this yarn. Was thinking about a hat & fingerless mittens in the Lallybroch colourway. With some parts of the design knit in pure qiviut yarn. If I'm using Lallybroch i thought i would add some 100% Qiviut in Moss colour to the ribbed cuff of the hat & the mittens.

So i have the hat design worked out on paper all i have to do now is wait for the fresh batch of Out♥lander yarns coming off the machines in a few days. I will cast on the moment they are dry. I'm hoping to get pictures on here within a few days !
And here they are....

The giveaway: Will draw at random 2 winners to win enough yarn to complete the hat & mitten project. (please check back here for pictures & the patterns)

Runs from August 30th to September 30th 2017.

Answer in the comments section - from each of the colours above, what is your favourite one & for each of the colours above what project is the yarn calling you to make ?

I also have a yarn giveaway ongoing on my Shetland wool blog....the Mioget shawl, pop over to the blog to check it out ! www.shetlandwool.blogspot.com

  3. I think Lallybroch as a cowl or smokering. My eyes are grey and turn with the color I wear...that green would be wonderful.

    1. Forgot to add the others! Standing Stones is a great yarn for a hap, Lallybroch would be perfect for a luscious cowl and I would make a sweater with Dragonfly and another amber/orange yarn.

  9. I love Lallybroch the most- it would be lovely as a lacy cowl! Dragonfly would make some nice bright cabled mittens. Over the Sea to Sky would be fabulous in a light, floppy beanie. And I would love to see Standing Stones in a stockinette stitch scarf to show off the beautiful changes in shade and tone.

  11. I <3 the Dragonfly! I don't usually go for yellows, but this one is so vibrant and pretty! Well done. I would probably knit mittens out of these beauties, but a hat would be lovely, too! Thanks for the update and the giveaway! (I'm knittingthestash on Ravelry)

  12. They're all so lovely. I'm torn between Lallybroch which is just gorgeous and Standing Stones but I'll go with Standing Stones ... I'm a blue. A big cowl is calling me or maybe an oversized scarf/stole.

  13. Oh my goodness! What a dreamy combination!! I so want my very own muskox ... not just for the amazing yarn, but because I think they are the cutest, most amazing creatures! I think Dragonfly in Amber and Standing Stones are my favorite colours. I see a shawl (not sure what one) in the Standing Stones, but I'd have to think a bit more on the Dragonfly in Amber. I suspect yellow would be a tricky colour as a garment on me. But I'd come up with something ;-)

  14. I love all of the colors but would have to choose Lallybroch as my fav. I would make a shrug/capelet out of it. Dragonfly is so super fun. I could see it as a hat and mitten combo. Over the Sea to Sky would be lovely as a baby blanket and Standing Stones would make the perfect cowl/scarf for my blue eyes mother!

  17. What a gorgeous line! I am torn between Lallybroch and Standing Stones to make a huge oversized wrap... I really can't decide!! Maybe Lallybroch gets an edge since I don't have anything in my stash quite like it! Thanks for the chance!

  18. My favourite colour is the Standing Stones.

Lallybroch: I'd want to make a hand coverings of some sort. Fingerless or mittens.

Dragonfly in Amber: This is shawl colours. Something eye-catching that highlights the colour in a crescent or triangle

Over the sea to Sky: Because of the colours, I want to make it into a cowl with a wavy texture.

Standing Stones: I would want to make a wider scarf or a rectangular shawl.

  19. What a beautiful collection, I love them all - but I'[ll pick a fave by the time I finish this comment.

I've always thought I'd like to come up with a colorway that was evocative of a Koi or Goldfish pond - blue waters, green mosses, grey stones and brown earth, with flashes of gold, orange and white for the fish. I'd love to design a sweater with all these colorways, as they've really captured that feeling for me. I'd also love a variety cowls - one from each colorway - but I'd also reserve enough of each yarn to combine into a hat that could be worn with any of them. And, although I'm a Blues guy 99% of the time, today Lallybroch just won't let my eyes wander away for very long, so It's my official favorite - but really all of them are wonderful.

  20. Lallybroch is my favorite and I'd use it with Dragonfly in a striped shawl....maybe Asa Tricosa's new Piuma.
Standing Stones, I would use in cabled legwarmers and Over the Sea to Sky I would love to see in a Semele shawl.

  21. Omgoodness they're all just gorgeous! I honestly don't know if I could pick just one of them as my favourite. They all evoke such different moods!

Though if I were pressed, I think, I'd choose Standing Stones. It feels to me like an oncoming storm, the atmosphere prickling with promises of thunder and the wind rushing by. Lol, some of my favourite weather! ;-p Perfect for Knitting! It would make an absolutely gorgeous hat and mitts or scarf or cowl.

Lallybroch, I think is asking to be a lovely traditional hap style shawl.

Dragonfly in Amber, would be a lovely stole/scarf.

Over the Sea to Skye, would be an incredible lacy pi shawl, with beads.

    Absolutely beautiful collection! Congrats!

  22. Lallybroch for me - the name echoes the landscape of the Hebrides. A bonny lacy cowl to keep the moors close to ones senses.

  23. I am torn between Dragonfly in Amber, Buttercup, orange & deepest brown, and Over the sea to Sky- shades of blue & sea grass,(if Over the Sea to Sky is in turquoise shades. Oh so difficult. I am choosing Dragonfly in Amber, because my eyes are shades of Amber and I would make it for winter use... I think about the warmth that yellow and brown will inspire in my when I wear it.
    Lallybroch, socks or fingerless gloves
    Dragonfly, scarf and hat
Over the sea to Sky- socks, scarf, hat, gloves :)
    Standing stones- socks

Lallybrooch would be perfect for a shawl.
Dragonfly: I love this one! I can see a bright hat and a cowl to wear together!
Standing Stones: warm gloves, long on the arm, with soft cables and a light lacey smoke ring. Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. The blue one is stunning and vibrant, but the Stones is also lovely and a bit mysterious if you ask me. Perfect yarn for legwarmers with the cold seasons coming our way ❄

  26. Really loving the Lallybroch. It has a very misty highlands feel to me. I think it would be lovely as a scarf with Celtic cables and the cables would be the undyed yarn to really make the pattern stand out.

  27. I love Dragonfly as a cowl. Something bright for a dark winter day.

  31. Standing stones is my favourite! But Dragonfly in Amber is a close second. Either would make a beautiful cowl. Lallybroch reminds me of Christmas, I think it would make a lovely scarf. Sea to Sky needs to be made into socks!!
